Another great day for boating, so Scott McPhee and I headed over to Pine Island to search the canals for another great spot for lunch. We headed under the Sanibel Causeway in a light chop and then headed north toward Pine Island.

It's always fun to check out the canals on Sanibel as well as Pine Island and Fort Myers Beach. Almost every home has a dock or a boat lift in these boating communities. If anyone is looking to become a part of one of these areas I think I have found the best way to check out the area - go by boat!

It's also interesting to check out the different boats along the way, as well as how docks and boat lifts are built. There are as many different lifts as there are boats and even the largest boats can be lifted out of the water. Keeping a boat raised is the one sure way to keep barnicles from growing on the bottom. Scraping barnicles off your boat is a bad way to have to spend your weekend.

These islands are a great place to live if you are interested in boating, fishing, or just hanging out at the beach. There are lots of boat charter companies if you want the pleasure of getting out on the water without the hassle of boat ownership (although I think owning a boat is a great way to enjoy this area).

As you've probably noticed I've been putting in photos of a few different boats and the lifts used to get them out of the water. Most are electric and use gear ratios that can lift almost any weight. You can also have them custom built to fit your property, which is great for people who have limited canal frontage.
