John's Sanibel Island Real Estate Blog

This weekend we (Scott McPhee & John Gee) decided to take the boat north up the intracoastal waterway to have lunch on Captiva Island, and then come back on the Gulf side so we could look at the homes, condos and beaches along the way. Check out the route we took below.

Sanibel boat route

There is nothing like a relaxing ride around the island to put you at ease. We left from near Sanibel Marina (East End of the Island) around 10:30 in the morning and headed up to 'Tween Waters Inn on Captiva Island. This was one of the calmest days on the water yet.
Underway We made it to 'Tween Waters and made our way to their pool bar where they serve burgers, drinks and sandwiches. Not a bad destination. 'Tween Waters is a resort we can recommend highly. They have quaint cottages to rent as well as modern motel rooms. You can overlook the bay, the Gulf or the swimming pool. The marina has powerboat, canoe & kayak rentals, as well as guided fishing and sightseeing trips.
After leaving the marina (each having burgers and a couple beers) we were lucky enough to see quite a few Manatee swimming around the docks. It's always great to see our local wildlife up close. It was hard to tell but I think there were four, but there could have been more. Manatee
From 'Tween Waters we headed up to Redfish Pass (the pass separating Captiva from North Captiva) and headed out into the Gulf for the ride back. We wanted to check out the beaches and see what shape they are in as well as just enjoy the view. We passed Blind Pass (separating Captiva from Sanibel) and could see progress as the Corp of Engineers work to reopen that pass. They have lots of equipment there but so far it's not opened yet. Once they have it completed it will help the fishing as well as our local wildlife. Construction at Blind Pass
Lands End South Seas Well, what can we say about the beaches and view from the water? The beaches are incredible and the condos and homes fit right in. The Sanibel building codes have kept this island perfect for people who live here or want to live here. Seeing it by boat just reminds us why we are here!

If anyone is interested in checking out properties by boat just give me a call. It's a great excuse to go out in the boat and it's a terrific way to check out various properties. Prices are down and interest rates are still low, it's the perfect time to buy a property and discover these islands yourself!

Have a Great Day and stay tuned for our next adventure!
